A controlled multiaccess protocol for packet satellite communication
نویسندگان
چکیده
A controlled multiaccess protocol for packet satellite communication is introduced and analyzed in this paper. This protocol is fully distributed and no on-board processing is required for the satellite. A control parameter f is used to adaptively control the packet transmission rate such that maximum system capacity can be attained and the average delay is always minimized for a given throughput. The controlled protocol is found to give a smaller average delay than slotted ALOHA even when the throughput is as low as 0.05. On the other hand, under heavy traffic conditions, it can provide a throughput close to unity and an average delay not much more than one round-trip propagation delay. The system performance is also robust, in the sense that a 15% error in throughput estimation results in no more than a 3% increase of the overall average packet delay. Since this protocol degenerates to the reservation ALOHA under heavy traffic, it is equally stable and similar channel control methods are applicable.

Packet Switching in a Multiaccess Broadcast Channel: Performance Evaluation
In this paper, the rationale and some advantages for multiaccess broadcast packet communication using satellite and ground radio channels are discussed. A mathematical model is formulated for a “slotted ALOHA” random access system. Using this model, a theory is put forth which gives a coherent qualitative interpretation of the system stability behavior which leads to the definition of a stabili...

Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...

In mobile ad-hoc radio networks, terminals are mobile and heterogeneous, the architecture of the network is continuously changing, communication links are packet oriented and radio resources are scarce. Therefore, mechanisms on how to access the radio channel are extremely important in order to improve network efficiency and, when needed, to guarantee QoS. However, due to these network harsh co...

Subcarrier wavelength-division multiaccess (SCM-WDM) networks have many features, such as high system capacity, flexible packet switching access and very fast tuning speed of RF local-oscillator, etc. Though, generally speaking, existing protocols for WDMA networks can be applied to SCM-WDM networks, the transmission efficiency in terms of packet delay and network throughput is low, since an op...
